Margate is the perfect easy escape from London (less than 2 hours by train). My boyfriend and I headed out there during a bank holiday weekend last year and we loved it. I put together a little Margate guide for a whistlestop tour there.
Where we stayed: Fort Road Hotel. Other top picks - No. 42 Margate, Margate House and The George & Heart pub.
Where were ate: Breakfast at Fort Road’s restaurant, Forts Cafe for coffee, lunch at the Pickled Fox and Peter’s Fish Factory and dinner at Dory’s and Sargasso. Other top picks: Pearly Cow, Dory’s sister restaurant Angela’s, Bottega Caruso for Italian, Palms Pizzeria, a Stoke Newington breakfast favourite The Good Egg, Thao Thao for Vietnamese and newer on the scene Pomus.
Where we grabbed a drink: Rose in June pub and Xylo brewery. Other top picks: Sete wine bar, Little Swift, Fez and Harbour Arms Micropub.
What we did: Browsed at the company formerly known as Haeckels, checked out the Turner Contemporary museum, visited the shell grotto, shopped at Breuer & Dawson, Positive Retail and Les Animaux and mouched around The Margate Bookshop.
